Taiwan Visa Documentation
The documentation you need when applying for a visa to Taiwan will vary depending on the type of visa you are applying for and your reason. Below are some of the more common documentation that you will be required to produce.
.

Study Purposes:

  • You must study Chinese at a government approved school for at least 10 hours a week.
  • You must have studied a month prior to your visa expiring.
  • Your passport
  • School enrollment certificate
  • Record of attendance
  • Photocopies of the front page and most current Taiwan visa page of your passport

Proof of residence:

  • To proof that you are still a resident in your own country to may have to provide some of the following documentation: valid drivers license, recent bank statement, water bill, electricity bill or telephone bill.

If visiting relatives:

  • You need proof of relationship between the applicant and the relative in Taiwan.
Your spouse and children will fall under the person that has a valid ARC. If one spouse does not work he/she would not qualify for an ARC in his/her own capacity.

    The following documentation is required:

    1. Proof of marriage
    2. Children's Unabridged Birth certificates
    3. Copy of work permit (ensuring that they can verify it with the original)
    4. Original copy of school contract
    5. Copy of all ARC's (even if expired)
    6. Letter of apology for overstaying your visa if applicable.

Each visa application has to have all these documents attached to it. You should be granted a Residents visa with a provision that you apply for your Arc's within 15 days.

  • A photocopy of a valid residence certificate such as a household registration or your relatives ARC.

Foreign Spouse joining a Taiwanese citizen:

  • A certificate of marriage issued by the applicant's government authenticated by an ROC Embassy, Consulate or Mission with jurisdiction over the place of issuance. Or a certificate of marriage issued the the ROC government.
  • A family household registration issued within the past 3 months in which the data on marriage status, name and nationality of the foreign spouse have been entered
  • A health certificate.
  • A criminal record report for the last 5 years.

Foreign Spouse joining an ARC holder:

  • A certificate of marriage issued by the applicant's government authenticated by an ROC Embassy, Consulate or Mission with jurisdiction over the place of issuance.
  • A health certificate.
  • A photocopy of the principal alien's ARC.

Employer Authorization:

Health Certificate:

  • A health certificate must have been issued within the past three months either by one of the designated local hospitals in Taiwan (Check here for list of approved hospitals) If done by a licensed foreign hospital or clinic the certificate has to be authenticated by the ROC Embassy, Consulate or Mission, which has jurisdiction over the place where the document was issued.

Financial resources:

  • If your reason for applying is not for work then you will have to prove you have the financial resources to support yourself. You will need to produce a record of the balance you have in your bank account. The amount will depend on the amount of time you plan on staying in Taiwan. We have heard recently that some office not only record a record of balance but a history of your account to ensure you just didn't make a deposit for the sole purpose of applying for a visa.

Photographs:

  • They must be color photographs an taken within the last 6 months. The acceptable size is (1 inch x 1.5 inch).

Re-entry Permit

  • Once you have your ARC you will need to apply for a reentry permit if you want to leave Taiwan. This is usually done at the time you apply for your ARC. If you have a newly issued ARC that is plastic then your reentry permit is encoded in the card and you must take your ARC card with yo when you are traveling outside of the country. If you still have an old paper ARC then you must have an ARC permit in your passport, for an example of what this looks like just click here
